Sri Lanka rejects proposed day-night test series

banner2The Sri Lankan cricket team has rejected a request from Pakistan to play first day and night test matches in their upcoming series to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Yesterday, the UAE said it would be happy to cater to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s proposal to play the first day-night test series in history, which will begin in Dubai on December 31, followed by the second test in Abu Dhabi from January 8 and finally in Sharjah from January 16.

Despite the International Cricket Council (ICC) approving day-night matches under floodlights, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) rejected the idea as its cricketers have not played under those conditions.

An SLC statement read: “Since the national team players have not practised under lights and with the new pink ball, the executive committee decided to stand by the decision taken by the national team management, to inform PCB that SLC is not willing to play a day-night test match as requested by PCB.”
